Cause: According to subsequent official statements from CloudCone, the third-party VPS deployment gateway was compromised through a vulnerability, which in turn affected connected hosts and damaged virtual machine disks.
Remediation: CloudCone stated that it has cleanly reinstalled the deployment gateway and affected hosts, rotated keys and credentials, strengthened IP access control and firewalls, and plans to migrate to its self-developed platform.
Compensation/remedy: Affected accounts received a balance equivalent to one month of the plan fee; the next two renewals will each be extended by two months; monthly backups on the new platform will be 50% off for up to one year.
